The Semaine de l’Aviation 2025 edition took place between this past 6th and 14th of September. These events, organized by its members with the help of the FAL (Fédération Aéronautique Luxembourgeoise) are a great opportunity to celebrate our shared interest in flying.

AOPA Luxembourg participated at two events on the 14th of September – the first one was a grill lunch in Lingten at the Modellfligerklub Miersch. The airfield is atop a beautiful hill with apple trees alongside and the grass strip is immaculately trimmed. Chris, Paul, Christophe and Cristina were warmly welcomed by the club president, Jacques Wanderscheid. The model aircraft members were present with their model aircraft on display and the grill roaring to go. The forecast was worse than the actual, there were a few breaks in the clouds but despite that we did not get to see any GA aircraft in the vicinity.
We grilled together and talked about flying. The members present were eager to explain how they operate their aircraft and even showed us the insides of them! The atmosphere was friendly – and we thank them for the wonderful day together – something to be repeated again for sure!
In the afternoon, AOPA Luxembourg visited a museum in Perlé dedicated to the 385th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Corps. The old village school has been converted into a museum and houses items related to World War II – more specifically to the two B-17’s that crashed in Perlé. The official memorial to the 385th Bombers is on the roundabout just past the church a few steps from the museum.
The gentleman who walked us around was very knowledgeable and explained everything in full detail, in a mix of languages. Years ago, his grandfather was passionate about the pieces of shrapnel and debris he found in his backyard and this became his hobby culminating in this incredible collection. This museum has garnered so much attention that the families of the fallen have come to visit from abroad, some several times, and others have even sent personal items belonging to the brave airmen who formed part of the squadron.
