✈️ Chasing the Summer Sky – Join Our Impromptu AOPA Fly-Out

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that aren’t planned too far in advance. With a stretch of good weather on the horizon, we’ve decided to do just that — take off on a spontaneous AOPA fly-out starting early next week.

We’ll be heading north and east, exploring some of Europe’s most charming and lesser-known airfields — from the Polish countryside to the Baltic islands, all the way up to the quiet beauty of the Swedish lakes. It’s not a rigid itinerary, but rather a shared journey where weather, wind, and whimsy guide our course.

What’s the idea?

We depart from the Luxembourg area, and from there we’ll head east through Germany and Poland, stopping at places like EPZE Zerniki, a quiet grass strip near Poznań. We’ll then cross into the Baltics, with stops like Jastarnia, Ruhnu, Kihnu, and Narva — remote islands and border towns that are rarely on a pilot’s radar, but offer unforgettable experiences.

Our route continues north through Finland’s archipelago, including a visit to Mariehamn in Åland, and across into Sweden, where airfields like Siljansnäs, Stegeborg, and Västervik welcome us with forests, lakes, and open skies.

The plan is to cruise around FL95, soaking in the scenery at a relaxed pace, with frequent stops for lunch, coffee, refuelling and perhaps even a dip in the sea.

On the way back, we might pass through St. Peter-Ording (EDXO), a unique airfield nestled by the Wadden Sea in northern Germany.

When?

We’re looking at departure early next week, depending on weather. The fly-out will last about one week, with pilots free to join for the whole trip or only a part of it.

Who can join?

Any AOPA member with the range and the spirit of adventure! This isn’t a commercial tour — it’s a shared experience between pilots who love to fly and discover. Everyone covers their own fuel, food, and overnights. But the memories? We’ll make those together.
