Changes in FAA regulations that might impact you

Do you hold an FAA license? Have you heard about the latest change?

The FAA has changed their regulations regarding non-US residents holding an FAA license.

"The FAA will require individuals with foreign addresses and no US physical address of record on file with the FAA, who hold or appy for certain certificates, ratings or authorizations to desingate a US agent for service of FAA documents."

Read all of the details on the FAA website here.

Who or what denotes a US agent? Here is the link to their definition of a 'US Agent for service'

Safety First - Using a Mnemonic Device

I can hear you ask - do I need another gadget?

This is not a physical device but a memory aid, a learning technique that associates

information with something easy to remember, often letters, a rhyme or a song.

Take a peek at a few common ones in the image above and read more on the AOPA US

website here.

There is also a great video on youtube with many mnemonics for the IFR check ride,

check it out here.

I always use this to help me remember the PAPI lights:

All white - outta sight = too high  (I've also heard, high as a kite)

All red - you're dead = too low

Do you use mnemonics - in any language - to help you out?

Let us know at editor@aopa.lu and we can share them!

Say Again?

Has there ever been a time when you were not sure what was said over the radio?

Maybe the message was too quick or garbled? Maybe you were distracted or busy?

Did you use 'Say Again'?

Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask the person on the other end to repeat themselves - it's the safe thing to do!

'Say again' is a wonderfully useful aviation phrase that is often overlooked. ELLX ATC wanted us to remind everyone - don't hesitate to ask 'Say again'?!

Want to brush up on your aviation phraseology? Check out this database from Eurocontrol click here or this pdf guide for GA from EASA click here.
