The Danish CAA plans a restricted area along almost the entire border with Germany to allow police drone surveillance. The zone extends 5 km into Denmark, though drones will only fly within 400 m of the border.
This affects the airports Tønder and Padborg, which fall inside the zone, threatening their operations. The area would be active year-round, 24/7, up to 1000 ft, also disrupting cross-border VFR flights in low clouds.
Controversy arises because no buffer zone is required in Germany, where nearby airfields remain unaffected—showing a smaller Danish zone could protect both air safety and local airports. |
