Pilots are not Patients
Pilots are not Patients

Since early this year, private pilots in Luxembourg—and across Europe—have been subjected to intrusive, overreaching medical requirements under Annex III to ED Decision 2025/002/R, turning routine medical checks into a bureaucratic nightmare. AOPA Luxembourg denounces this as medical overkill that fails to enhance safety but risks alienating passionate aviators.

Skydemon Luxembourg Update

For those of you using Skydemon - you may have noticed that previously the model aircraft sites of Luxembourg did not appear on the map.

AOPA Luxembourg raised the issue and now they are all on the map!

In their latest update, Skydemon has included all 6 of Luxembourg's model aircraft fields. They are marked by a green circle / black x.

Planned restricted area along the Danish border with Germany

The Danish CAA plans a restricted area along almost the entire border with Germany to allow police drone surveillance. The zone extends 5 km into Denmark, though drones will only fly within 400 m of the border.

This affects the airports Tønder and Padborg, which fall inside the zone, threatening their operations. The area would be active year-round, 24/7, up to 1000 ft, also disrupting cross-border VFR flights in low clouds.

Controversy arises because no buffer zone is required in Germany, where nearby airfields remain unaffected—showing a smaller Danish zone could protect both air safety and local airports.

Airfield Finds EDFZ

EDFZ Mainz

Looking for a new place to fly to? We'll share our newest discoveries and hopefully you'll share yours with us at editor@aopa.lu so that we can include them in a future issue!

In just about an hour you can get to Mainz and have a lovely lunch on their airside terrace! Enjoy a slow flight back along the Rhein enjoying the views of the many castles, just watch out for the bird sanctuaries.

Tell us, where has your AOPA cap been lately?.

Bernard Frechen Memorial Event

Bernard's memorial event, held at Aerosport on September 7th was so moving. We gathered around his pet project D-ELIT while Frank and others spoke emotionally about his life and his dedication to aviation. As a nod to their close working relationship, the airport fire brigade attended with their fire trucks alongside. Bernard touched so many of us, we miss him dearly!

In case you missed it, please read our AOPA In Memoriam here.
